Acupuncture and Moxabustion for Breech Presentation

Posted by H. Frank Neely L.Ac. on January 8, 2011 at 11:14 AM

Breech presentation is when the baby’s head fails to descend into the pelvis. Usually by 36 weeks the baby begins to turn in preparation for delivery, three to four percent of baby’s remain feet down and do not turn There are several methods used to induce the right position and Acupuncture andMoxabustion are a safe, effective, fast and comfortable choice for the expecting mother and soon to be born baby.

Acupuncture and Moxabustion stimulate a special point located next to the nail of the small toe. This point is believed to release hormones that signal the fetus to move to the proper head down position.

Acupuncture and Moxabustion have a 75% success rate and it usually takes one to four treatments. In my practice the results have been immediate. After applying the needles the expecting mothers felt the baby move and a slight pulling pressure in the pelvis. Sonograms 24 hours after the treatment revealed that the baby’s had all moved to the correct position for birth.

Here you will find a link to research on the efficacy of Acupuncture and Moxabustion for Breech Presentation.
